Osteopathy for Adults
Although I specialise in treating pediatric patients I have been treating adults since I graduated in 2009. I see many Mums and Dad’s of the children I see, and love the fact that I can meet the whole family. I have treated many people from sports professionals, desk based workers, pregnant mums, to people in the later stages of life. Before I qualified as an Osteopath I was a sports masseur and still use many techniques I learnt then, as part of my practice now. Osteopathy looks at the body as whole and not just the sore bit. Pain can lead the whole body to compensate, so it is important to look at what the root cause of the pain is, which can often be in a different spot to where you are experiencing the pain. Osteopathic practice is a healthcare approach that provides a package of care that can include one or more of the following: Manual therapy, health information, self management advice and support and or exercise and stretch prescription as determined by the needs of the individuals patient. No two treatments are the same. Manual therapy can include techniques such as massage, mobilizations, manipulations and stretches.
Below is a list of conditions that there is sufficient evidence to suggest that Osteopathy can claim to help:
- Arthritic pain
- Circulatory problems
- Digestion problems
- Frozen shoulder/ shoulder and elbow pain/ tennis elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis) arising from associated musculoskeletal conditions of the back and neck, but not isolated occurrences
- Headache arising from the neck (Cervicogenic)
- Joint pains
- Joint pains including hip and knee pain from osteoarthritis as an adjunct to core OA treatments and exercise
- General, acute & chronic backache, back pain (not arising from injury or accident)
- Generalised aches and pains
- Inability to relax
- Migraine prevention
- Minor sports injuries and tensions
- Muscle spasms
- Inability to relax
- Rheumatic pain
- Uncomplicated mechanical neck pain (as opposed to neck pain following injury i.e. whiplash)
Kate treats both myself and my 10 year old son. She is extremely intuitive and warm, able to get underneath what’s going on in our bodies on so many levels. I feel that Kate’s treatments have been crucial for us both, especially through some more challenging times – nudging us both back to health and balance.
I have been seeing Kate for years. From the moment you arrive to a beautiful studio, you feel calm and safe. The treatments are amazing and Kate just seems to know exactly what to do.
I saw Kate within the first week after birth and she soon was known in our family affectionately as “ you baby whisperer”. My son was noticeably more settled and I would recommend her 100% to any new parents.
After suffering terrible pain in my lower back following a fall and struggling to contain the pain with all the drugs prescribed to me, after a few sessions with Kate I was amazed how effective Osteopathy was. It allowed me to move more freely without the dependence of morphine. For anyone suffering with similar symptoms I highly recommend this treatment.
Kate is really kind and really funny!
I have seen many osteopaths in my life but was really lucky to meet Kate when I moved to Brighton. She is my go to therapist for myself and my family. She has a very sensitive approach and is fantastic with our two small children. Highly recommended….
