Osteopathy for children

Osteopathic techniques are suitable for children at all stages of development. As part of our pediatric training we are taught to observe for many conditions that can affect kids growing up and refer back to the relevant medical help when necessary. I understand that many children are cautious of strangers and give them plenty of space to get used to their surroundings and a strange new person, before I start any form of physical examination. Observing a child at play gives you so much information as to their stage of development and structural balance. Much of the assessment is done through various games that most kids love to play and get very involved in. Toddlers are always difficult because they never stay still for more than a few seconds, but I am very used to treating a small person whilst walking around or sitting in strange positions. If there is a favourite toy then I do ask you to bring it with you as well as a favourite snack just in case.

As children get older treatment can start to incorporate techniques such as massage and moving of joints, with prescribed exercise and stretches. Children and especially teenagers can be very body conscious and I am always respectful of this when carrying out an examination or giving treatment and, by law, there is always a consenting adult in the room. There is an array of toys and puzzles to entertain children and teenagers and or siblings as necessary. Feel free to bring along an electronic device if that is necessary although I do ask the sound to be turned down and no shooting games!!

Unfortunately Exam stress is becoming more and more prevalent in todays society. I am seeing more and more young adults for stress related issues due to the increasing amounts of pressure they are under to perform well in exams. Osteopathy can be very helpful in aiding relaxation around exam times.

Kate treats both myself and my 10 year old son. She is extremely intuitive and warm, able to get underneath what’s going on in our bodies on so many levels. I feel that Kate’s treatments have been crucial for us both, especially through some more challenging times – nudging us both back to health and balance.

Fiona, Hove

I have been seeing Kate for years. From the moment you arrive to a beautiful studio, you feel calm and safe. The treatments are amazing and Kate just seems to know exactly what to do.

Emma, Hove

I saw Kate within the first week after birth and she soon was known in our family affectionately as “ you baby whisperer”. My son was noticeably more settled and I would recommend her 100% to any new parents.

Katie, East Sussex

After suffering terrible pain in my lower back following a fall and struggling to contain the pain with all the drugs prescribed to me, after a few sessions with Kate I was amazed how effective Osteopathy was. It allowed me to move more freely without the dependence of morphine. For anyone suffering with similar symptoms I highly recommend this treatment.

Kate is really kind and really funny!

J - Aged 10

I have seen many osteopaths in my life but was really lucky to meet Kate when I moved to Brighton. She is my go to therapist for myself and my family. She has a very sensitive approach and is fantastic with our two small children. Highly recommended….
